Calendar & scheduling:
- We follow the San Diego Unified School District calendar for holiday breaks, spring break, and summer vacation.
- Our calendar year includes a fall session, winter session, spring session, and summer session.
- Lesson/class times will be permanent for the entire session, so please choose carefully, considering your other extracurricular commitments that may conflict.
- For last minute cancellations made the day of your lesson, you will not be refunded for the missed lesson.
- For cancellations made the day before your lesson, you will be refunded for 50% of your fee, credited toward your next payment.
- For cancellations made 2 or more days in advance, you will receive a full refund for your missed lesson, credited back to your next month’s fees.
- If a teacher needs to cancel a lesson for any reason, you will be refunded in full and credited toward your next payment.
- Invoices must be paid by cash or check within 2 weeks of being received.
- If they are not paid within the 2 week grace period, there will be a $5.00 additional late fee added to the invoice total, and an additional $5.00 fee for every week it goes unpaid.
Make up policy:
- Art students: if you miss a class at any time during your pre-paid session, you can make it up by attending the Wednesday or Saturday class (opposite of the day you normally take).
- Private music students: make up lessons are pending the availability of the instructor and will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
- Any other group classes: you may make up a missed class by attending any other group class on our schedule.
- If a student is disrespectful, does not follow their instructor’s requests, or disrupts their fellow students’ experiences, he or she will be removed from their class and asked to wait quietly in the lobby until their parents arrive.
- If poor behavior continues into the lobby space, parents will be called and asked to pick up their student immediately.
Observing classes:
- Parents/guardians are invited to watch classes at any time, if the student agrees and will not be distracted, and if there is sufficient space in the room.
- Parents are normally encouraged to wait in our lobby during their children’s lessons.
- You may not leave your young children unattended before or after their allotted lesson time. Teachers must give their full attention to the current student that is scheduled.
Drop-off and pick-up procedures:
- If you are not going to stay and wait during your child’s lesson, please thoroughly discuss instructions for when and where your children are to meet you after lessons, whether that be in the lobby waiting area, on the sidewalk, or elsewhere.
- Prodigy instructors are not responsible for students after they leave the studio room. We are devoted to attention inside the studio space only.
- Prodigy is not a child-care facility and we encourage all students to wait before and after lessons inside the lobby area, as it is the safest area we can provide.
- Art students: during their session, students will work toward creating projects that they will display at the end of the session, at a gallery showing hosted in our front room.
- Music students: every spring, students will prepare to participate in a recital at a local performing venue. Participation is not required, but is strongly encouraged.
- Any other group classes: performances may be given on the last day of a class session, depending on the curriculum and the skill level of the students.
