Past Exhibition: Mixed Media/Abstract Paintings
by Mike DeRyckere, local artist

The goal of art is to express. To impart through shapes, forms and color a thought, a feeling, or a sensation. To create a moment that one can refer back to again and again - a reminder of an experience or a longing of some place or state of being that one would like to touch or understand. It shows us all the aspects and facets of our deepest emotions and strives to teach us to look much deeper. The different mediums we utilize challenge us to awaken to that which is greater than ourselves and to look at the smallest piece of information that may help us understand who we really are.

The elements of art are both simple and complex. Sometimes its content hits us right between the eyes in a direct and succinct way. Other times it leads us down a labyrinth of confusion tediously manipulating the viewer. In the end, art's creative ingenuity takes us a bit further into the unknown. Beckoning, daring us to look around the next corner into a place of infinite awareness. Thank you for being willing to take a peek at mine.

-Michael J. DeRyckere

Past Exhibition: Coastal Landscapes by Denise Palmer, local oil painter

Denise's passion is painting scenes from memorable photos taken on her travels to Europe, New Zealand, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. Beautiful islands, mountains, and beaches truly amaze Denise. Her ultimate goal is to share the feelings she has experienced while spending time in these beautiful and exotic places. She works primarily in oils painting from her own personal collection of photographs. Denise's biggest inspirations are New Zealand Plein Air painter Robert Robinson, Sorolla, California Impressionists, and women French Impressionists of the past.
